How to Help Your Child Improve in Math

Math can be a tricky subject for both children and adults. If your child is struggling with their math lessons, do your best to help them out, even if math is your least favorite subject. The Tutoring Center in Broken Arrow has some tips to help your child excel in math.

Set the Right Example

Even if it's not obvious, most children pick up habits and attitudes from their parents. If you're not a fan of math and give into your frustrations by giving up when helping your child with math homework, they'll notice. Do your best to keep a positive attitude and look for solutions even when you're frustrated. Remember that signing your child up for tutoring is a great way to provide your child with extra help in areas you're not comfortable with.

Make Math Fun

In order to make math more fun, incorporate it in activities your child enjoys. For example, if your child enjoys helping your cook or bake, incorporate some basic math into these activities. Have your child measure ingredients, set timers and count servings. Don't forget that math also plays a large role in most board games, especially those that involve money.

Use Math Daily

Do your best to get in some extra math practice on a daily basis. Have your child tell you the time and have them calculate how much longer for a certain television show to come on. If you go shopping, have your child calculate how much you're spending as your pick up items. There are many ways to get your child practicing basic math daily.
